STRATA attended Art Basel in Miami last week to participate in the first Miami Street Photography Festival, an international three day event at the world’s largest gathering for collectors, artists and enthusiasts. STRATA members Matt Dunn, Michael Hicks and Chris Suspect were featured in the festival with Dunn and Hicks receiving a 2012 MSPF Award selected by Alex Webb (Magnum), Rebecca Norris Webb, Maggie Steber (National Geographic) and Juan Jose Reyes (MSPF) as some of the best work represented at this year’s festival.
There was also much attention given by the media to MSPF with Harpers Bazaar listing the event on their Hot List: Miami Art Basel 2012 and the Miami Herald, ArtInfo and MyArtGuide also mentioning the show.
Among the events associated with the festival, Maggie Steber, Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb all gave talks about their work. Russian-born street photographer Emir Shabashvili lead a photo walk down Calle Ocho in Little Havana. Festival organizer Juan Jose Reyes gave an afternoon presentation on the basics of street photography. And, on the last day Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb gave a full day street photography workshop for registered attendees.
During Art Basel we got to see a talk by Magnum photographer and Burnmagazine.org curator David Alan Harvey, who discussed his latest photo book (based on a true story). Harvey also threw a great party at the ABBA Gallery in the evening.
When not attending various events or a host of different art fairs during the day, STRATA spent the bulk of their time documenting Art Basel and life in Miami over the course of 8 days. Above is the gallery of our selects.
All the images are by Matt Dunn, Michael Hicks, Chris Suspect and guest photographer Hector Isaac, who took great care of STRATA while in Miami.
